Burgess Deloy Howard – Old BD Burgess Deloy Howard (Old BD, Dad), 94 years old, of Moab, Utah (formerly Worland, Wyoming), passed away peacefully on January 11, 2014. He is now in the arms of his beloved soul mate and eternal companion Betty Joyce. The two lovers are reunited once again to be together forever. The funeral service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 1st Ward located at 475 W. 400 N. Moab, Utah. Bishop David Knutson will be officiating. Visitation and Viewing will be held at Spanish Valley Mortuary at 386 N. 100 W. Moab, Utah on Friday, January 17th at 6:00 pm and at the church on Saturday at 10:00 am, one hour prior to the funeral at 11:00am. Graveside service will immediately follow. BD was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on July 23, 1919. He was a young 94 years old and refused to act his age. He wanted to remain youthful, happy and tease every single person he ever met to get their attention and make them laugh. He always said that people were like books and all you needed to do is open them up and see what you could find. Dad was married in March of 1959 to Betty Joyce McDonald and later was sealed in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple on April 14, 1984 for time and all eternity. The two lovebirds were married for over 55 years. Sealed for 30 years this coming April. Betty preceded BD by passing into paradise on April 15, 2010. Dad has finally connected with his bride, in Heaven, to find bliss and loving comfort forever more. One important point that Dad always made, was that a man needs to hold his spouse as priority number one! Always put her first. He did! The famous daily question from Dad, “How’s that number one of yours?” Dad worked as an oil field engineer and supervisor for Baker Hughes Oil Company in the oil rich fertile fields of Wyoming, after moving there from California in 1959, where he worked and retired after 30 years. Dad enjoyed the oil field where he worked hard and met a host of personable rough necks and company men that he did business with. Everyone knew Old BD and respected him as well as liked him. Some feared him because he was so blunt, but to those who know him he was like a drill sergeant who just wanted the best for his family, his work, and his friends. He believed in good honest work and never encouraged complaining or lack of respect. “No one, is your boss!” Supervisor is a better description, but no one is a boss of him or his family! Dad enjoyed his church with his lovely wife Betty. The two became very active in the LDS church over the years and served the church in many callings including a full time mission in Kirtland, Ohio where they served for two years. They were also temple workers in the Monticello, Utah Temple. They loved their ward in Moab and one of Dad’s reputations was to hand out candies to the little children who came into church. The greatest reward to him was a hug. He got lots of those from everyone! “Love everybody”, he always said. Dad is survived by a daughter Marlene Ciavarelli, sons, Larry Stephen Howard, Philip Curtis Howard (Ana), Robert Paul Howard (Karrie), 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and a whole host of friends that can’t be counted. God rest your amazing soul Dad. You fought the good fight and won.

They Live OnThey Live On

   Those we love remain with us
   For love itself lives on;

   Cherished memories never fade
   Because one loved is gone.

   Those we love can never be
   More than a thought apart;

   For as long as there’s a memory,
   They live on within our heart.
